Woman seeks child support from ring idol By Candice Y. Cerezo PhilBoxing.com Thu, 09 Feb 2006 A woman on Wednesday sued the boxing idol Manny Pacquiao, claiming he has stopped providing financial support for their two-year-old son. Joanna Rose Bacosa filed a complaint before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office. She said she met Pacquiao in March 2003, a month after she was hired as a receptionist at the City Square at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Malate. She said Pacquiao frequented the bar until they became close and had a relationship. By May that year, Pacquiao had gotten her pregnant. They continued seeing each other, Bacosa said. In August 2003 Pacquiao, who had arrived from a training session in the United States, gave her P20,000 to rent an apartment in preparation for her childbirth. Three months later, he handed her P300,000 as a Christmas gift, Bacosa said. On January 2, 2004, Bacosa gave birth at the San Juan de Dios Hospital in Pasay. She informed Pacquiao through a message she relayed to his friends. She said Pacquiao was hap?py when he called her the next day and that he visited her and her son. They lost contact in May 2004 after Pacquiao returned from the US. Since Pacquiao had told her to quit her job and that he would support her and the child, she had to rely on Pacquiao to get by. Pacquiao, however, cut off his support, Bacosa said. On November 23, 2005, Pacquiao called her, telling her to bring their child to Cebu. The next day she met Pacquiao, who paid only her plane fare back to Manila and gave her P3,000 as pocket money. On January 31 Pacquiao called her, threatening to kidnap the boy if she went to court to seek child support, Bacosa said. Appearing on television, Jinkee, Pacquiao’s wife, stood by her man, saying: “I wish they would stop pestering us.” Rex Salud, one of Pacquiao’s advisers, said the boxer had not reneged on his obligations but that “she had been demanding too much. First it was P3 million, then P5 million, now she wants P15 million for child support.” Salud said Jinkee was aware of the short-lived affair. “Jinkee is the one who has been sending support to the child,” he said.
