KOKI KAMEDA WINS WBA BANTAMWEIGHT TITLE
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Tue, 28 Dec 2010

Southpaw Koki Kameda (24-1, 15 KOs) has won the vacant WBA bantamweight title with a unanimous twelve round decision over former WBA super flyweight champion Alexander Munoz (35-4, 27 KOs) in Saitama, Japan.
Kameda dropped Munoz with a left-right combination in the last round to help seal the deal and to win his third championship belt in three different weight divisions. He had previously won the WBA light flyweight title in a controversial decision over Venezuela?s Juan Landaeta and then went on to win the WBC flyweight crown beating fellow Japanese Daisuke Naito.
All three judges had Kameda the winner by comfortable margins. Jose Roberto Torres of Mexico turned in a 117-109 scorecard, Pinit Prayadsab of Thailand 116-109 and Levi Martinez of the US 115-111.
Well known Hall-of-Fame journalist, boxing manager and matchmaker Joe Koizumi reported it was ?a see-saw affair as Munoz kept throwing roundhouse punches and Kameda defended himself with a peek-a-boo guard and occasionally countered with southpaw lefts. The sixth saw Munoz penalized a point because of repeated rabbit punches.?
In the final round the 24 year old Kameda came out aggressively and cracked Munoz with a left-right combination and sent him reeling to the canvas and hurt him again with some solid blows.
Munoz w3ho had an unblemished 7-0 record against Japanese opponents in all world title bouts in Japan was expected to still pose a threat but Koizumi said he ?proved to be only a shell of himself, missing looping lefts and rights.? Although Munoz attempted to score with body shots against the younger Kameda his punches seemed ineffective.
In the twelfth and final round Kameda displayed his youth and superior stamina when he dropped the ageing and f adding veteran Munoz to confirm his victory.
Kameda, in a post fight interview said ?I?m happy to dedicate this victory to my supporters and my family. I wish to be a good champion.?
