Results from the 3rd Lionel Bacaltos Cup Finals in Sibonga By Rene Bonsubre, Jr. PhilBoxing.com Sun, 08 Aug 2010 The amateur boxing team from Sabang won the overall championship title during the finals of the 3rd Lionel Bacaltos Cup amateur boxing tournament held at the Bonifacio Bacaltos Sports and Cultural Centrum in Sibonga, Cebu last Saturday. In the finals matches, Reboy Deiparine of Casantic - Bato won on points 2-1 against Jason Campa?a of Sabang in the 40-41 kg. division, Jenelito Gerundio of Bagacay won the 43-45 kg. class versus Mark Nazaren Cudera of Guimbangco-an on points 3-0, Jerry Lastroverde (Guest team) beat Jitro Solatario of Lindongon by RSC 1:56 round 1 (45-47 kgs.). Danny Boy Bustamante of Guimbanco-an won by walkover against Kineth Fernandez of BDP stable Papan (47-48 kgs), Clarence Antipona of Sabang beat Randy Gonzales of Bagacay by first round RSC outclassed (48.5 ? 49.5 kgs.). Raymundo Camocamo of Sabang beat Julio Hermilisawan of Casantic-Bato on points 2-1 (49 ? 51 kgs.), Junril Repunte of Sabang beat Tony Silva of Guimbanco-an who retired after the first round (51.5-52.5 kgs), Romel Acruz (Guest team ) won by retirement 1st round against Jake Cortes of Casantic- Bato vs (53.5-54.5 kgs). Klien Tacorda (guest team ) beat Antonio Santos of Sabang by RSC outclassed 1st round in 1:37 (57-57.5 kgs), Jason Harabay of Libo won on points 2-1 versus Jayson delos Santos of Casantic-Bato (58-59.5 kgs), Arwen Gil of Casantic-Bato beat Jeffrey Harabay of Libo on points in the 59-61kg. class. The Sabang team won a total of 3 golds, 2 silvers and 3 bronze medals, Casantic-Bato won 2 golds, 3 silvers and 5 bronze for second place, Guimbancoan won third overall with 1 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronzes with a tie for fourth for Bagacay and Libo with 1 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronzes each. This boxing tournament was hosted by the Municipality of Sibonga headed by Mayor Lionel E. Bacaltos through the efforts of Vice Mayor Rey Apuda. The amateur tourney started with 45 boxers last July 25 with fights held weekly. The winners of the final bouts received gold medals with silver and bronze medals to the runners up. The winning teams will receive cash prizes with 10,000 pesos going to the overall champion. Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri was a special guest of the Sibonga local government during the festivities.
