DODIE BOY PENALOSA JR?S U.S. DEBUT CANCELED By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Fri, 02 Jul 2010 Dodie Boy Penalosa Jr?s scheduled US debut against Mexican Jose Pacheco at the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California on Saturday, Manila Time has reportedly been canceled since his opponent came in way above the 122 pound limit for the fight. The information was relayed to us by Dong Secuya of philboxing.com. The southpaw son of former two-division world champion Dodie Boy Penalosa and nephew of former two-division world champion Gerry Penalosa, who is still active, will now have to look forward to an August 28 date in Lake Tahoe, Nevada to launch his career in the US after winning his first fight as a pro with a 2nd round knockout of Anthony Balubar last January 23 in which he dropped Balubar once in the first and once in the second round before putting him away for the count the third time. Pacheco was considered an easy opponent for the former amateur standout Penalosa who couldn?t come to terms on an amateur career with the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines which eyed him as a 2012 London Olympic Games prospect and decided to turn pro. WBA super flyweight interim champion Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire who has Dodie Boy Jr?s father and uncle Jonathan Penalosa in his training camp, signed up Dodie Boy Jr in partnership with Cameron Dunkin, Donaire?s manager. Donaire told us the other day that Penalosa Jr was coming along nicely and he had sparred with Donaire who is in the thick of preparations for his showdown with Hernan ?Tyson? Marquez in Puerto Rico on July 10. Pacheco has a very poor ring record of 2 wins as against 13 losses and 6 draws with no knockouts while he has been knocked out four times. In fact Pacheco?s last win was a four round unanimous decision over Mario Gonzalez on May 24, 2009. He has lost eight straight fights after that and should pose no real danger to Penalosa Jr making a successful American debut.
