Casimero defends WBO interim jr. flyweight title in Mexico July 24 By Rene Bonsubre, Jr. PhilBoxing.com Fri, 02 Jul 2010 After a series of postponements, WBO interim world junior flyweight champion Johnriel Casimero of the Omega Boxing gym of Cebu City will finally defend his title on July 24 in Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico against Ramon Garcia Hirales. This fight was originally scheduled for July 3 in Baja California. International Matchmaker Sampson Lewkowicz relayed the information to Sammy Gello-ani of SGG Sports Promotions. Team Casimero is confident that despite the many postponements, Casimero remains focused mentally and physically on his training. Team Casimero is set to leave for the US on their way to Mexico this July 11, two weeks before the fight to continue his training in USA. He will be accompanied by his trainers, Christopher Tepora and Danny Bactol, his manager, Bimboy Osorio and Neil Bryan Castillo the son of the owner of IPI and his Philippine Promoter, Sammy Gello-ani. It was reported by the Spanish language boxing website notifight.com last week that undefeated World Boxing Organization (WBO) light flyweight champ Ivan Calderon (33W-0L-1D, 6 KO's) of Puerto Rico wants to defend his title against Casimero on August 28 in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. Calderon is recovering from the cut on his right cheek he suffered in his June 12 title defense against Jes?s Iribe of Mexico at Madison Square Garden in New York. Calderon retained his crown by unanimous decision. Casimero (14W-0L, 8 KO's) will have to get past Hirales (12W-1L-1D, 8 KO's) to get his dream match against Calderon. Promoter Sammy Gello-ani told this writer last week that the date of the proposed Casimero-Calderon bout is very close to the Hirales fight and he will negotiate a schedule change if Casimero beats his Mexican challenger.
