JULIO CESAR CHAVEZ JR RIPPED AND READY FOR WAR AGAINST JOHN DUDDY By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Wed, 23 Jun 2010 Undefeated and world rated Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, son of the legendary Mexican Julio Cesar Chavez has arrived in San Antonio, Texas ripped and ready for could well turn into a war against Ireland?s John Duddy in their quest for the vacant WBC silver middleweight title at the Alamadome in San Antonio, Texas on Sunday, Manila Time. One of the interesting aspects of the big ?Latin Fury 15? pay-per-view fight card of Top Rank promotions will be the return of Mexican legend Marco Antonio Barrera to the venue where he suffered the worst beating of his career at the hands of reigning pound-for-pound king and ?Fighter of the Decade? Manny Pacquiao in an 11th round TKO in November 2003. Barrera has said he is not ashamed of that defeat after dropping a unanimous decision to Pacquiao in a rematch some years later and has indicated he is determined to overcome the challenge of rugged Brazilian Adailton De Jesus en route to going after another world title. Also adding excitement to the card which will be telecast in the Philippines by the giant broadcast network ABS-CBN over Studio 23 at 11:00 a.m. with a replay on pre-eminent Channel 2 on July 4 at 10:15 a.m. is the bout featuring Raul ?The Cobra? Martinez whose only loss was at the hands of Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire in an IBF/IBO flyweight title fight in Manila on April 19, 2009 at the Araneta Coliseum, the ?Mecca? of Philippine sports and entertainment. Martinez who is from San Antonio faces tough Gabriel Elizondo who, like him, is also a hometown boy. But the attraction is certain to be Chavez Jr who has won praise from pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao?s conditioning expert Alex Ariza while working out at the Wild Card Gym under four-time ?Trainer of the Year? award winner Freddie Roach and Ariza, who told us Chavez ?is doing very well. With all the rumors about being lazy and all the problems we might have, he?s been the complete opposite.? Ariza said Chavez Jr is ?a great athlete, a hard worker. They said he wouldn?t be able to get up at 5 o?clock in the morning but he?s been doing it every day. He deserves a lot of credit.? The conditioning expert said Chavez Jr had the flu when he first arrived in Los Angeles but had overcome everything including his weight problems and that everyone is ? going to be pleasantly surprised how well he?s done. And he?s been great with Freddie (Roach) who is such an incredible teacher that Chavez is picking up on all of it.? The 24 year old Chavez Jr who will battle Duddy for the newly minted, vacant WBC Silver super middleweight title is coming off a ten round unanimous decision over Troy Rowland (25-2, 7 KO?s) last November 14 after scoring a 1st round TKO over Jason Le Houllier (21-1-1, 8 KO?s) on September 12, 2009. The 30 year old Duddy is also coming off two good wins. He won a split decision over tough Michael Medina (23-1-2, 18 KO?s) last March 13 after earlier scoring a 1st round TKO over Juan Astorga (14-3-1, 9 KO?s). Duddy is the former IBA and former WBC Continental Americas middleweight champion. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Ronnie Nathanielsz. |
