THAI IBF OFFICIAL SAYS NEW IBF PRESIDENT PEOPLES WILL BE GOOD FOR THAI FIGHTERS By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Wed, 23 Jun 2010 Thailand?s IBF representative Somphong Atchanukor believes that the new IBF president Daryl Peoples would be good for Thai boxers, three of whom are vying for world titles. Atchanukor who attended the recent IBF Convention in Puerto Rico noted that Peoples has experience in world boxing for a long time who had traveled to watch fights in Asia including the Philippines, Indonesia and also Australia. Siam Sports quoted Atchanukor as saying that it is a good sign that Peoples is now the new IBF president because ?personally, he is close to our country (Thailand). I believe this will be good for Thai boxers and they will be supported to rise in world championship rankings. Furthermore, the vice-president is an Australian (Ray Wheatley) , who we are familiar with. Therefore, when the president and vice-president support this, Asian boxers will have a better opportunity to win world championships than before.? At the same time, Akarat Chaichotechuang, a promoter of Suek Yon Muaylok mentioned the fight card in which three Filipino fighters faced top opponents from Thailand and ? confirmed their readiness to come to show their mightiness and defeat the Thai boxers.? Two of the three Filipino boxers put on a fine performance but lost while the third was able to force a draw. Ericson Origenes was beaten by former world-rayed featherweight Fahsai Sakkreerin in a battle for the vacant IBF Pan Pacific super featherweight title in the main event at the Holland Beer Entertainment Center in Bangkok. Fahsai won by a 6th round technical decision when Thai referee Cherdchaichanon Srichart consulted the ring doctor who ruled that the cut suffered by Fahsai over his right eye due to an accidental clash of heads was too severe to allow him to continue. All three Thai judges turned in identical 59-55 scorecards for the hometown boy. In an action-packed flyweight bout Rusalee Samor and Filipino Rodel Tejares fought to a well received six round draw while Thai super bantamweight Mike ?Mike Tyson? Tawatchai outpointed Elmar Francisco in another exciting six round bout. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Ronnie Nathanielsz. |
