Melligen gets new opponent By Rene Bonsubre, Jr. PhilBoxing.com Tue, 22 Jun 2010 Welterweight prospect ?Mighty? Mark Jason Melligen of the ALA gym will be fighting Anges Adjaho this July 3 instead of Michel Rosales. Adjaho (25 W(KO 14)-L 2) was born in Cotonou, Benin and currently resides in New York. He is a former Africa Boxing Union superfeatherweight and WBO Africa lightweight titlist. The 30 year old Adjaho turned pro in 2001 and started fighting in the U.S. in 2006. He has a 5 win ? 2 loss record in the States and the name fighter on his record is Antonio DeMarco, who beat him in a WBC lightweight eliminator last year. ALA Promotions informed philboxing of Melligen?s new opponent. Melligen (18W (13 by KO)- 2 L) was eager to avenge the split decision loss to the Mexican Rosales last Nov. 13, 2009 on the same night and venue that his stablemate Z Gorres met his tragic fate when ?The Dream? was brought to the emergency room and underwent neurosurgery after winning his bout by unanimous decision against Colombian Luis Melendez. Their rematch was supposedly set at the Grand Sierra Resort, Reno, Nevada. But the website notifight.com actually shows an advertisement of Michel Rosales fighting Amilcar Funes for a continental title this June 26 and could very well be one of the reasons for Rosales backing out. The 24 year old Melligen is now in Nevada and trains at Floyd Mayweather?s personal gym on the West side of Las Vegas with his trainer Tony Martin. The southpaw Melligen hails from Bacolod City. He has scored impressive wins in his last two fights: a 6th-round TKO against Raymond Gatica last February 13 in Las Vegas, Nevada followed by a 10 round unanimous decision win against Norberto ?Demonio? Gonzalez last April 10 also in Las Vegas. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Rene Bonsubre, Jr.. |
