BARRERA RETURNS ON TOP RANK CARD By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Wed, 02 Jun 2010 Some months after his vaunted rival Erik ?El Terrible? Morales made a successful return to the ring after being blasted in two fights in his trilogy with pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao, another Mexican legend Marco Antonio Barrera is also set to make a comeback. Barrera also suffered back-to-back beats at the hands of Pacquiao with his battering in November 2003 the fight that first established Pacquiao?s credentials as a genuine superstar in boxing. Barrera has announced that his comeback fight will take place on the undercard of the Julio Cesar Chavez ? John Duddy for something called the WBC middleweight silver title at the same Alamadome venue in San Antonio where Pacquiao handed Barrera the worst beating of his career. The fights will be telecast by the giant broadcast network ABS-CBN. Barrera will face Brazil?s Adailton De Jesus who has a record of 26-4 with 21 knockouts compared to Barrera?s 65-7 with 43 knockouts. In an interview by Christian Schmidt on FightNews.com said De Jesus ?has a good punch. He has a lot of Kos. Obviously very strong. ? A look at the Brazilian?s record indicates that he won his last four fights, twon by 2nd round knockouts and two by TKOs in the second and third round but against comparatively weak opponents. However, when De Jesus faced quality opponents it was a different story. He most by a 6th round TKO to Yuriorkis Gamboa on October 3, 2007 and earlier dropped a ten round unanimous decision to Roinet Caballeri on August 16, 2007. De Jesus also lost by a 12 round unanimous decision ti Marcos Ramirez in a clash for the vacant IBF Latin Featherweight title on May 30, 2007 and then on August 22, 2009 suffered a 1st round knockout in a WBA Fedelatin title fight to Oscar Jesus Pereyra. Although Barrera is coming of a long layout he says he feels good and promises its going to be a good fight. At the same Barrera didn?t feel he had anything to be ashamed off over his first loss to Pacquiao saying ?in the contrary I lost to another one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world. There is no shame in that.? Talking about possible rematches Barrera said he could fight Juan Manuel Marquez claiming ?the judges gave him a gift in our first fight? which was for the WBC super featherweight title on March 17, 2007. In his last fight on March 13, 2009 Barrera lost by a 5th round technical decision to Amir Khan who is currently the WBA light welterweight champion. Barrera also gave bitter rival Morales credit when he said Morales ?looked good in his comeback fight? and said a fourth fight with Morales following their epic trilogy ?is very possible.?
