MELLIGEN DETERMINED TO AVENGE LOSS TO ROSALES By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Mon, 31 May 2010 Junior welterweight Mark Jason Melligen (17-2, 13 KO?s) of the famed ALA Gym is determined to avenge his split decision loss to Michel "El Bravo" Rosales (27-3, 23 KO's) last November when they meet in a rematch on July 3 in Reno, Nevada. Melligen who is currently training at the ALA Gym before leaving for Las Vegas next week, told us ?I want to redeem myself from that loss and I don?t believe I lost that fight? even as he mentioned that the tragedy that befell his close friend Z The Dream? Gorres whom he saw being carried out on a stretcher after his smashing win over Luis Melendez affected him. Melligen said he was happy that Gorres has recovered well and is leading a comfortable life saying ?I?m not thinking of Gorres any longer. All I am thinking of is Rosales and I am focused on that fight.? The hard-hitting southpaw conceded he had problems with the height of Rosales who is 5?11? but added, ?I know his style now and can handle him.? Melligen said he was ?not aggressive? in the first fight with Rosales because he was not focused and his mind was wandering but said he now knows he can beat him. The 24 year old Filipino prospect said he had sparred with some of the best including Floyd Mayweather Jr, Devon Alexander and Marcos Maidana and this has ?built up my confidence even in sparring compared to the past.? Melligen will resume training at the Mayweather gym in Las Vegas under the watchful eye of former longtime Cebu resident Tony Martin who has guided him through since Melligen first fought in the US. In an interview with Ryan Burton of boxingscene.com Martin said ?this time we will year him (Rosales) apart. This will not be the same Melligen that gets into the ring on July 3. Trust me.? Martin claimed that they had challenged WBC Continental American champion Alfonso Gomez 22-4-2, 11 KO?s) but he ?wouldn?t accept it. He wouldn?t fight us? even as he mentioned the fact that Melligen wants to fight a former world champion or a world rated fighter after he gets past Rosales. Martin told Burton ?we are going there to win and knock this guy (Rosales) out. It is that simple. We are going to make a statement this time.?
