INTERNATIONAL TV RIGHTS DEAL DELAYING DONAIRE-DARCHINYAN REMATCH AGREEMENT By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Tue, 27 Apr 2010 While WBA super flyweight interim champion Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? has no idea about the reasons for the delay in finalizing his eagerly anticipated rematch with WBC/WBA champion Vic Darchinyan, promoter Gary Shaw told us Tuesday that the international TV rights was the sticking point. In a telephone conversation with insidesports.ph, Standard Today and Viva Sports, Shaw said ?I don?t like and I?m not happy with the deal on the international TV rights and I?m hoping that they (Top Rank) will come back with a better offer so we could make the fight.? Shaw who handles Darchinyan indicated that ?otherwise we will just have to move on and fight someone else.? The well-known promoter said he doesn?t think that ?the money that Top Rank is putting on the table is fair because they want to keep all the Philippine television rights money. They say it wasn?t a lot of money, so we?ll see.? Shaw disclosed that he had spoken to Carl Moretti of Top Rank and ?told him what I want and he said they would get back to me.? Donaire who knocked out Darchinyan in the 5th round to grab the Australian?s IBF/IBO flyweight titles on July 7, 2007 in what was voted as ?The Knockout of the Year? sounded frustrated at his predicament of not getting the big fights while fighters such as WBO champion Jorge Arce and WBO bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel both of whom he wanted to fight, continue to move forward in their careers. Arce last week scored a 7th round knockout of two-time world title challenger Cecilio "Boga" Santos of Mexico City in a non-title bantamweight bout and will move on to fight Eric Morel for the WBO 118 pound title in Top Rank's "Latin Fury" card on June 26 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. Donaire who ripped Santos in four rounds meanwhile sits around waiting for the big fights and the name fighters that would give him a chance to show his skill and punching power and reinforce his career. Donaire told us ?I have not heard anything from Top Rank. I don?t know what?s going on.? The only thing Donaire knows was that his manager Cameron Dunkin was ?talking to Todd duBeof and trying to get this finalized.? The flashy champion who is also in Ring Magazine?s top 10 in the pound-for-pound rankings where countryman and hero Manny Pacquiao is king, said his languishing without a good fight is ?not good for my career. When you don?t know when you are fighting or who your opponent is there is a lack of determination so I?m just training and helping out the guys? who include Dodie Boy Penalosa Jr whom he signed up recently. Donaire said he had heard that his fight would be on August 21 but said ?I don?t know whether its going to go. They have been trying to get this fight for the last 3 or 4 weeks already and yet we have not heard any confirmation on that.? The exceptionally skilled fighter said he had been ?training a little bit? but not on a regular basis even as he occasionally runs to stay in shape and sparred with Penalosa Jr Tuesday but ?aside from that, there?s no all-out training .?
