SULAIMAN SAYS MANNY FOUGHT TO PLEASE THE FANS, CLOTTEY TO SURVIVE
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Thu, 18 Mar 2010

World Boxing Council president Don Jose Sulaiman has commended pound-for-pound king and winner of the organizations only “Diamond Belt” for his smashing 12th round TKO over former WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto for “doing his best to please the boxing fans” in his title defense against Ghana’s Joshua Clottey last weekend in Dallas, Texas.
Sulaiman said Pacquiao “showed he is by far one of the greatest boxers of today while the other guy (Clottey) had only one thing on his mind, to collect his money. He wanted to last the twelve rounds and he was very respectful of Manny.”
The WBC president told us “it was a surprise to me that he was so inactive. I felt that the speed, the precision and the many punches that Manny threw. I believe that he threw more punches in this fight than in the last week in the gym.”
Referring to the fantastic $1.2 billion Dallas Cowboys Stadium that drew almost 51,000 fans Sulaiman said “that was sensational, unbelievable. I’d say that the Cowboys stadium is the cathedral of boxing in the world” even as he praised owner Jerry Jones as “a very nice person and I really applaud him for entering boxing and offering a fantastic stadium and bringing the best boxer and the most attractive boxer today, Manny. No question about it. I was very happy with everything.”
