MAYOL PEAKING RIGHT ON TIME

PhilBoxing.com

Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico -- WBC Junior Lightweight Champion, Rodel Mayol, is in tip top shape and is peaking at the right moment. “Today, I am just a little over a pound over the limit and that is our target weight. That means I do not have to starve myself for the weigh-in tomorrow," Mayol told this writer as we met him after his work out with his main trainer, Jesse Arevalo.

“He did four rounds of shadow boxing and four rounds with the mitts and four rounds skipping rope, and he can’t look any better,” said Arevalo. “He should be just fine for Saturday.”

Mayol has been in Mexico since Sunday to keep his obligations to attend a press con in Mexico City last Monday. The following day, they took a good hour and a half flight to Guadalajara and checked in at the Mission Carlton Hotel one of the better hotels in this part of the city.

Yesterday, they were booked to attend a charity event for the under served children in the city. However, Team Mayol was the only one that showed up at the venue. All the other boxers and even the organizers did not show up. Apparently, the event was canceled but no one informed Team Mayol and thus, they just wasted their time.

After today’s workout, Mayol will just spend his time hanging out at the hotel and rest. Tomorrow will be the official weigh-in and Mayol does not see any problem.

“I look forward to a nice late lunch after the weigh-in and I will surely enjoy the chicken tinola with maluggay my wife Lira brought with her fresh from LA," Mayol informed. "Hopefully, it will work just as good for me as it does for Pacquiao.”

Mayol is aware of the hard task ahead but with the news that a neutral referee and US judges working the fight, his concerns about a “hometown decision” is gone and now can totally focus on the fight.

“The best I can tell you is it will be a good fight. I am hot and ready for it. I intend to keep my title.”
