SUICO TO FIGHT IN BARRERA-PEDEN UNDERCARD? By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Mon, 04 Jul 2005 Don't look now, but it seems another Filipino will get the chance to see action in a huge pay-per-view card on September 17 underneath the Marco Antonio Barrera-Robbie Peden unification rumble set in Las Vegas. Reigning Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) super-featherweight king Randy "Komong Bato" Suico has been scheduled to see action on September 17 against a soon-to-be-named foe. Yesterday, Suico informed that he is indeed seeing action on September 17, although his Japanese manager Joe Koizumi is still looking for a worthy foe for the dynamite-fisted fighter. Earlier, Suico had announced right after his last win over a Thai challenger that he was looking forward to challenging Marco Antonio Barrera, the WBC super-featherweight champ. Showcasing Suico in Las Vegas must be the promoter's way of selling a possible Barrera-Suico clash if both come out victorious on September 17. Barrera is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions of Oscar De la Hoya. Suico holds a fearsome 23-1 win-loss record with 20 KO's. His only defeat was a controversial split decision to Mzonke Fana last year in South Africa despite knocking down the South African twice. Fana moved on to challenge Barrera last April 9 and lasted just two rounds against the Mexican warrior. In his last fight on April 27, Suico successfully defended his OPBF title with a fourth-round knockout over Thai Muanfahlek Kiatwichean in Lapu-Lapu City to register his fourth defense of the title he won way back 2002.
