LUMACAD TO FACE MONTES FOR WBC YOUTH TITLE IN MEXICO
By Rene Bonsubre, Jr. PhilBoxing.com Thu, 29 Oct 2009

Fernando Lumacad will get a second chance to make a name for himself when he faces Juan Jose Montes of Mexico ( 15W-1L, 11 KO's) for the WBC Superflyweight Youth Title in Oaxaca, Mexico. Montes won the vacant WBC Youth Intercontinental title October 2008 with a 6th round TKO over Regulo Gamez. Montes previously held the WBC Mundo Hispano superflyweight belt.
Lumacad had a dismal performance against Jorge Arce last June. He wants to make up for it and has been training hard at the IPI Gym in Mandaue City. Lumacad (21 W-2 L-2 D, 8 KO's) has won twice since the 3rd round KO loss to Arce; winning by 3rd round TKO over Rodel Veronque and 10 round decision over Nino Suelo.
Lumacad is the fifth boxer promoted by Sammy Gello-ani who will have an overseas fight. Currently training at the IPI Gym is WBO superflyweight champ Marvin Sonsona for his first defense and Ciso Morales who will be fighting in the undercard in Canada on November 21, Federico “Magnifico” Catubay, who will figure in an IBF world title eliminator against Juan Alberto Rosas of Mexico in Las Vegas on November 13 and Johnriel Casimero who will fight in Nicaragua on December 12 for the interim WBO world light flyweight world title against Cesar Canchila.
