RELOADED BOOM BOOM BLASTS MARBUN IN SEVEN, ALA BOYS SWEEP MAIN BOUTS

PhilBoxing.com

CEBU CITY -- Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista fulfilled his promise that the fight will not reach the tenth round and scored a dramatic seventh round TKO win over Marangin “Dinamita” Marbun of Indonesia.

Both boxers tasted each other’s jabs and right hands in the opening round but Bautista also mixed in left hooks to the body with his offense. But Marbun showed he was no patsy as he took Bautista’s punches well and landed effective counters in the second.

In the third round, a left hook staggered Bautista but he bounced back and hurt Marbun with his own left hook and right straight. Furious exchanges ensued. Marbun set up his offense behind a sharp left jab and Bautista looked to be in trouble in the 4th as he hit the canvas but it was ruled a slip by referee Bruce McTavish.

They continued to trade bombs in the 4th until a straight left dropped Marbun. The Indonesian got up and continued to trade with Bautista. As the rounds progressed welts were starting to form around the eyes of Bautista. It was anybody’s fight at the half way mark as they continued to trade punches with murderous intentions.

In the seventh round a sharp left followed by a powerful right straight deposited Marbun near the neutral corner. Referee McTavish signalled the end at 1:25 of the 7th. Marbun was visibly disappointed with the loss and he was even screaming when he was attended to by the medical personnel at ringside. Bautista wins the interim WBC featherweight international title. He has been inactive for 11 months due to a wrist injury but has once again showed his ability to turn a fight around with his punching power.

Marjun Yap (L) tags Pramuansak Posuwan with a jab.

Marjun Yap won by 10th round TKO over battle-hardened veteran Pramuansak Posuwan Kokietgym when the Thailander suddenly limped and fell in the opening seconds of the final round apparently due to leg cramps.

Yap worked behind a busy jab and lateral movement. Posuwan tried to cut the ring off and land body shots. Yap landed combinations from long range but Posuwan still continued to chase. The aging Thai started to tire in the middle rounds and Yap steadily piled up the points. Posuwan got his second wind in the 8th and caught Yap with vicious hooks. He also managed to rock Yap in the ninth. But Posuwan’s inability to stand spoiled what could have been an explosive ending.

Czar Amonsot won a ten round unanimous decision over Jesus Muzaka Singwancha. The southpaw Amonsot started tentatively and missed with his right hook as Muzaka pressed the action. The Congo boxer now based in Thailand bored in and landed hooks to the body. Amonsot landed clean shots in the 3rd but Muzaka walked through them and inflicted punishment at close quarters.

Czar decided to move and box and landed crisp one-two combinations. But the action slowed in the middle rounds as Amonsot employed a punch and grab routine; this lead to his failure to follow up every time he landed a clean shot. Muzaka also was not aggressive enough in the latter stages of the fight and did not fight out of the clinches. The scorecards read 96-94, 98-92 and 97-93 for Amonsot.

WBO Vice-Pres. Leon Panoncillo, who was at ringside, said that because Muzaka lost in a non-title bout above his weight class, his WBO Asia-Pacific jr.lightweight title will be declared vacant. Muzaka failed to duplicate his scintillating performance against Rey Labao in Naga, Cebu last July 31.

Jason Pagara survived a bruising ring war and won by unanimous decision over Decha (Bankluaygym) Kokietgym. Both boxers took turns hammering each other with blistering combinations. Decha was hurt in the 3rd but survived the round. The Thai was tough as nails as he took Pagara’s fusillades but still threw enough counters to keep him in the fight.

Pagara already had a comfortable lead going into the last round but Decha managed to catch him with potential haymakers that sent Pagara staggering across the ring. The Thailander smelled blood but Pagara managed to hang on until the final bell. The scores : 96-94, 96-93 and 97-93 for Pagara.

In the other supporting bouts:

Edison Berwela won by four round unanimous decision over Romnick Hoybia in a superbantamweight contest. The southpaw Berwela knocked Hoybia down twice in the opening round. The scorecards read: 39-35, 39-35 and 38-36.

Lt. flyweight Marjohn Macahilig employed body shots to win by first round knockout over Roque Lauro. Official time: 2:58.

Fernando “Batang Bato” Okon won by six round unanimous decision over Jomar Cordinillo in their lt.flyweight battle. Okon had the edge in the power department and staggered Cordinillo in the 2nd. A small hematoma also formed on Cordinillo’s left eyelid in the third. The scores read: 58-56, 58-56, 59-55.

In the first bout of the evening, Jefferson Reodeque won by four round unanimous decision over JR Salvador in a well fought mini-flyweight contest. The scorecards read: 39-37 on all three judges.

The fight card billed as “HAMON SA KAMPEON” was staged at the Waterfront Hotel in Cebu City last Friday and co-promoted by ALA Promotions and the Kokiet Group of Thailand.
