Leyva, Rachman Public Workout Updates
By Rene Bonsubre, Jr. PhilBoxing.com Fri, 13 Mar 2009
Leyva (L) and Rachman.
Roberto"Mako" Leyva of Mexico and Muhammad "The Rock Breaker" Rachman had a public work out Thursday evening at the ALA Gym at the Banilad Town Center. The southpaw Leyva, who will be fighting Z "The Dream" Gorres for the vacant WBO Oriental Bantamweight belt, started his routine by warming up and doing light calisthenics. He showed speed and excellent footwork while shadow boxing inside the ring under the watchful eyes of trainer and two time world champ Raul Perez. He finished his routine by skipping rope for a few minutes.
Rachman showed excellent endurance by skipping rope for several minutes then shadow boxing with heavy gloves under the guidance of his trainer Alex Rabaleta. He looked like someone ready for the long haul in his battle against the much younger Milan Melindo.
There will be a public official weigh-in today, Friday 11A.M. at the SM City Entertainment Center. Fight night is on Saturday at the Waterfront Hotel in Cebu City and prelim bouts start at 6 P.M.
