MELINDO PUTS WBO ASIA PACIFIC TITLE ON THE LINE THURSDAY

PhilBoxing.com

WBO Asia Pacific Mini flyweight champion Milan Melindo, probably the best boxer in the star-studded ALA Gym of respected boxing patron Tony Aldeguer, will put his title on the line when he clashes with dangerous African warrior Juma Fundi of Tanzania on October 30 at the Atrium of Limketkai Mall in Cagayan de Oro.

The fight card is is presented by ALA Promotions in association with Misamis Oriental Governor Oscar Moreno who is credited for the resurgence of boxing in that part of Mindanao.

Hometown favorite Melindo is expected to draw a huge crowd as he is expected to put on another classy display of his skill and ring savy against Fundi who boasts of an impressive record of 8-1 with the only loss coming at the hands of WBO Oriental champion Richie Mepranum from the stable of Mayor Jojo Lopez of Maasim, Sarangani.

Mepranum is the same fighter who put on a fine display when he beat Philippine flyweight champion Rocky Fuentes one of his few losses in their non-title bout at the Araneta Coliseum last December.

Both Melindo and Fundi are coming off big wins in their last outings. Melindo defeated world-rated Carlos Melo of Panama in their battle for the WBA Intercontinental light flyweight title last July while Fundi scored a 1st round knockout win over Sadat Miyeyusho last August.

Young Michael Aldeguer, who has assumed the mantle of his father at the ALA Gym, said a world title fight could be in the offing for Melindo depending on his performance on Saturday, Aldeguer said "An impressive win for Melindo could earn for him his first international stint, possibly in Dubai. We are looking to match him with either Omar Soto of Mexico or with former world champion Muhammad Rachman? who lost his title to the Philippines Florante Condes on July 7, 2007 in Jakarta.

A strong supporting cast is lined-up with 16 year old sensation Jason Pagara, the WBO Asia-Pacific Youth champion Jason Pagara vying for the vacant Philippine lightweight title against RP#4 contender Arnel Porras of General Santos who was himself a former RP champion.

The rest of the card pits Weng Haya versus the grizzled veteran Jaime Barcelona; Romeo Jakosalem of Davao City against William Jorge of Leolet stable and ABS/CBN idol champion Jerson Mancio against Charlie Cabilla.
