NIGHT OF KNOCKOUTS IN TALISAY By Rene Bonsubre, Jr. PhilBoxing.com Sat, 04 Oct 2008 CEBU CITY -- Anthony ?Rocky? Marcial won the interim WBO Oriental superfeatherweight title via third round technical knockout over his Thai opponent Thongthai Rajanond. Marcial walked through the punches of the smaller Rajanond and scored a knockdown in the very first round. He proceeded to give a one-sided mauling and pinned the Thai in the neutral corner with a hail of unanswered punches prompting the stoppage by the referee. The Thai corner claimed the stoppage was premature. Jhonreil Casimiro won the vacant WBO Asia Pacific Jr. Flyweight title with a 5th round TKO win over Liempetch Sor Veerapol of Thailand. After a probing first round, Casimiro scored with hooks to the head and eventually scored his first knockdown. His momentum was temporarily halted in the second when an accidental clash of heads caused a gash on the left side of Casimiro?s forehead. A vicious combination dropped the Thai in the fourth. Casimiro moved in for the kill but the Thai was saved by the bell. The Filipino finished the job in the fifth by beating the Thai from pillar to post. The night was not spared of controversy. In a riotous contest, Rey Labao hit Daryl Pucdol?s family jewels in the third round and was deducted a point. . Pucdol writhed in pain and was once again the recipient of blows south of the border in the subsequent round. Pucdol rolled on the canvas in obvious pain and was given five minutes to recover. He could not continue and Labao was initially ruled a TKO winner. Later on in the evening, a ruling was announced that Labao was disqualified. In a highly entertaining give and take battle, Elf Gitgano knocked ut Elmer Legaria in the third round. South Korea?s Jonghwa Lee landed the more accurate shots against Erwin Pulvera of the Philippines and scored a unanimous decision win. Jhether Oliva won via 5th round knockout over Jerome Buntog Oliva scored a knockdown in round one and proceeded to punish his opponent with body blows. Richie Abapo won by unanimous decision over Brian Inihaw. The fight card was started with amateur bouts showcasing up and coming young talent from the cities of Talisay and Mandaue.
