King's Gambit's Marticio Rules Back-to-Back Chess Tourneys By Marlon Bernardino PhilBoxing.com Thu, 01 Feb 2024 King's Gambit Online Chess School's players of Coach Richard Villaseran continued to romp up titles in different tournaments with WNM Jersey Marticio, arguably the country's top junior female chess player, bagging back-to-back titles against the best junior players including male players. Marticio claimed first the title in the Women's division of the round robin 3rd CEFAG Rapid Chess Tournament then followed it up with an amazing 7.5/8 performance against male junior players in the 2024 Sta Maria Chess Challenge U17. "Jersey Marticio is most probably the best U20 female chess player in the country today. She just needs international exposure so she can get that WFM or even WIM title. We're eyeing for her to make it to the national women's team this year," said Coach Richard Villaseran. Not to be outdone were fellow King's Gambit players Jeremy Martcio and Tiv Omangay who ruled separate tournaments as well as National Master Keith Ilar who was co-champion. Marticio ruled the men's division of the round robin 3rd CEFAG Rapid Chess Tournament while Omangay captured the Open Non-Master Rapid Chess Challenge in Pamapanga. NM Ilar on the other hand was co-champion in the Junior Category of the Road To Singapore Qualifying tournament held in Cagayan de Oro. These are all part of King's Gambit Online Chess School players preparation for top national tournaments such as National Age Groups, National School Youth, National Juniors, Palarong Pambansa, Men's and Women's National Team Qualifiers and ASEAN and Eastern Asia Age Group as well as World Cadets. "We are doing our best to make sure our players are in their best conditions when they compete in these important tournaments," added Coach Richard Villaseran.-Marlon Bernardino- Click here to view a list of other articles written by Marlon Bernardino. |
