RIP Jack Amisa, 36

PROFESSIONAL boxer Jack Amisa of Indonesia is dead. He was only 36. It was not clear what was the cause of his death.

Amisa was hospitalized at PKT Bontang Hospital for 17 days where was was discharged last January 5.

Amisa’s last fight was against Fil-American JV “The Fighting Doc” Tuazon of the United States of America by a majority decision last April 27, 2023 held at the Spaceplus Bangkok RCA in Bangkok, Thailand.

Amisa had 21 victories with 51 defeats and three draws.

His last victory was against Sis Morales by points last May 3, 2016 in Malang while his draw was against Hisar Mawan last November 17, 2019 in Batu, Indonesia.

Amisa had a total of six fights here in the Philippines and his last was a title-fight between former WBC International minimumweight king Denver Cuello for the vacant Asian Boxing Federation bantamweight title.

Amisa was downed once in Round 1 and finally a technical knockout in Round 2 last March 8, 2019 at the Angono Sports Complex in Angono.

Amisa had his first bout in the Philippines against former IBO World super flyweight champion Edrin “The Sting” Dapudong of M’lang last September 29, 2007 in M’lang, Cotabato.

Amisa lost by a TKO in the 3rd round for the WBO Asia Pacific Youth minimumweight title.

Amisa’s next bout was another loss with ex-IBF World light flyweight champion Milan “El Metodico" Melindo of Cagayan de Oro scored a unanimous decision for the WBO Asia Pacific minimumweight title last December 2007 in Quezon City.

Amisa suffered another setback in his 3rd bout to former OPBF bantamweight king Froilan “The Sniper” Saludar of Polomolok by a 1st round knockout in Imus, Cavite last May 2011.

In his 4th encounter, Amisa again lost by a UD to former WBO World minimumweight king Merlito “Tiger” Sabillo last November 2015 in La Trinidad.

Amisa had a rematch with Sabillo for the Asian Boxing Federation light flyweight title in Bacolod City last May 2017. Sabillo won again by a knockout in the 1st round.

Amisa also had three fights against Filipinos but in different countries.

Amisa first lost to former OPBF flyweight champion Jayr “The Dreamer” Raquinel of Bacolod by a TKO in the 2nd round last November 2019 in Dubai.

He then fought and lost to ABF light flyweight champion John Michael “Striker” Zulueta of Negros Occidental by a TKO in the 5th round last May 2022 at the Spaceplus Bangkok.

Amisa’s farewell fight was against Tuazon.

He was also very friendly with fellow boxers including Filipinos.

“He has many fights, I can't say anything about Jack Amisa,” said international promoter-matchmaker Brico Santig of Highland.

Amisa started as a pro boxer in 2002 and started with 13 wins before he suffered his first defeat to compatriot Heri “The Magic Baby” Amol by a unanimous decision last February 2006.
