Kyle Amoroto, Michael Feliciano Make it to Hanoi Open Quarterfinal Round By Dong Secuya PhilBoxing.com Sat, 14 Oct 2023 21-year-old Filipino rising pool star Kyle Amoroto defeated another big name in Aloysius Yapp of Singapore, 10-5, to enter in the quarterfinal round together with compatriot Michael Angelo Feliciano who dispatched Brunei's Ahmad Taufiq, 10-7 during Saturday's matches in the ongoing Hanoi Open Pool Championships at the Hanoi Indoor Games Gymnasium in Hanoi City, Vietnam. Lee Vann Corteza, the other Filipino who saw action in the last 16, lost to Spain's David Alcaide, 7-10 and bows out of the competition. Feliciano who placed second in last week's Peri 9-Ball Open won by Fedor Gorst of USA, saw Taufiq drew first blood in their race to 10 matchup to lead at 2-0. Feliciano came to tie the game at 2-2. The game stayed close at 3-3 and 4-4 until Taufiq got some breathing space to lead at 6-4. Feliciano came roaring back winning the next four racks to lead at 8-6 before Taufiq chipped Feliciano's lead to 8-7. Feliciano then won the last two racks capped by a golden break in the last rack to win the game at 10-7. Amoroto displayed impeccable shooting to race to 5 to nothing lead before Yapp, the Michigan Open winner in 2021 and 2022, scored a rack of his own, 1-5. Amoroto won the next rack to make 6-1. Yapp takes the next rack, 2-6 and Filipino responded to win the next rack to maintain his 5-rack lead, 7-2. Yapp then won the next two racks to make it 4-7 before Amoroto reached hill at 9-4. Yapp tried to stay alive at 5-9 but the Filipino phenom closed the show on the 15th rack, 10-5. Amoroto will face Taiwan's Ko Ping Chung, winner of this year's US Open, in the quarterfinal. Ping Chung came from behind to edge Max Lechner of Austria, 10-9. Feliciano tangles with Sanjin Pehlivanovic of Bosnia who won his match against world number 1 Francisco Sanchez Ruiz of Spain, 10-5.
