Nadera, 3 others share lead after Day 1 of 2nd AQ Prime FIDE Standard Chess Tournament By Marlon Bernardino PhilBoxing.com Sat, 19 Aug 2023 PASIG CITY---International Master Barlo Nadera toppled Fide Master Christian Gian Karlo Arca of Dasmariñas City, Cavite to grab a share of the lead after two rounds of the 2nd AQ Prime FIDE Standard Chess Open Tournament at the level 3 Robinsons Metro East, Marcos Highway on Saturday, August 19. The Mandaue City-born Nadera improved his total to 2.0 points in the 2000 to 2399 rating division, the same output of Woman International Master Marie Antoinette San Diego of Dasmariñas City, Cavite, Dale Bernardo of Angeles City, Pampanga and Alexis Emil Maribao of Caloocan City. San Diego outpointed Fide Master Adrian Ros Pacis of Mandaluyong City, Bernardo crushed National Master Mark Jay Bacojo of Dasmariñas City, Cavite while Maribao nipped Marc Kevin Labog of Solano, Nueva Vizcaya. Legazpi, Albay pride Woman Grandmaster Janelle Mae Frayna's winning run came to a halt following a draw with Istraelito Rilloraza of Las Piñas City while defending champion Fide Master Christian Mark Daluz of Bulan, Sorsogon inflicted the second straight loses of 8-time Illinois, USA chess champion International Master Angelo Abundo Young of Tondo, Manila. Frayna, Rilloraza and Daluz were right behind the leaders with 1.5 points. Young yielded to Arca in the opening round after 80 moves of Catalan Opening. The event which is sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP), offers P10,000 to the champion. Meanwhile, Atty Aldwin Alegre, CEO of AQ Prime Entertainment, expressed commitment to promoting chess in the country, particularly by organizing standard games vital for young players seeking to earn a FIDE title.
