MASAM SPORTS 76: TERENCE CRAWFORD SAYS $50 MILLION WAS OFFERED FOR HIM AND ERROL SPENCE JR.

PhilBoxing.com

Terence Crawford was quoted by Boxingscene.com that representatives from two unnamed hedge funds were willing to earmark guaranteed purses of $25 million for him and Errol Spence Jr. during their negotiations with Premier Boxing Champions founder Al Haymon.

Crawford revealed the reason that negotiations for their big fight failed last month during a 20-minute show streamed on Instagram Live. The WBO welterweight champion from Omaha, Nebraska also discussed that he informed Spence of the $50 million offer, but it was he who would not want to negotiate with these unidentified investors whom Crawford contacted and who were willing to finance the highly-popular match.

Crawford (38-0, 29 KOs) will defend his WBO welterweight title against Russia’s David Avanesyan (29-3-1, 17 KOs) on December 10 in Omaha, Nebraska. The IBF/WBA/WBC 147-pound champion Spence (28-0, 22 KOs), most likely would fight another PBC fighter Keith Thurman (30-1, 22 KOs,1 NC) after Crawford climbs the ring against Avanesyan.

In the event Crawford and Spence win their respective bouts, Crawford wants to re-negotiate for a welterweight unification fight. Crawford however criticized Spence that he couldn’t decide if they take the $50 million in guaranteed purses.

Spence answered back at Crawford: "Why it take you [two] weeks to say something. You tried getting your sh!t together Lol. We can see you looking at some flash cards or piece of paper, good you speaking now. I was worried. Facts is I’m fighting somebody else. [Crawford] is too but a tune up.”

A match between Chris Eubank Jr. and Liam Smith is set to take place at the end of the year, according to The Daily Star. If both camps could agree, the fight would happen on December 17. Eubank Jr. , age 33 years, of Hove, United Kingdom, was previously scheduled to climb the ring on October 8 with Conor Benn, but the fight was cancelled when Benn tested positive for a banned substance.

Smith, age 34 years, of Liverpool, United Kingdom, was a former WBO junior middleweight champion and would move up to the middleweight division fight Eubank. Smith's last bout took place at middleweight, when he stopped Hassan Mwakinyo in four rounds back last September 3.
