International Master Michael Concio Jr. to play FIDE Standard chess tournament By Marlon Bernardino PhilBoxing.com Tue, 19 Apr 2022 MANILA---International Master (IM) Michael Concio Jr. is set to compete in the FIDE Rated Chess Tournament dubbed as 1st Relampagos FIDE Chess Cup, which begins on Friday at the Panabo Chess Park, Panabo City in Davao Del Norte. Concio scored a career breakthrough when he ruled the 2nd Eastern Asia Juniors and Girls Championship in Tanauan, Batangas giving him an International Master title on December 15, 2019. Concio (elo rating of 2211) is fresh from winning the Bullet 3 Arena online chess tournament virtually held at lichess platform last April 7 and Pinoy Open Online Blitz Chess Championship over the weekend virtually held via chess.com platform. “I’m ready. It’s a big challenge for me, but I will do my very best in this pretigious event (1st Relampagos FIDE Chess Cup)," said Concio. Accompanied by his playing coach Fide Master Roel Abelgas (elo rating of 2220) and team mate Woman National Master Jeryn Mae San Diego (elo rating of 1825), fondly called Jako in the chess world will see action featuring Mindanao's Top Masters and Young Champions. The three day event, April 22, 23 and 24 is hosted by City Government of Panabo headed by it's Mayor Jose Relampagos and Atty. Janris Jay "Jigs" Relampagos and supported by Emmanuel Eva and Multicar applying the 60 minutes plus 30 seconds increment standard time control format.
