IM Concio strikes again in Asenso Pinoy Chess online tourney By Marlon Bernardino PhilBoxing.com Mon, 18 Apr 2022 MANILA---Dasmariñas' International Master Michael Concio Jr., a consistent winner of the online weekly tournaments, stamped his class again by topping the Pinoy Open Online Blitz Chess Championship dubbed as Asenso Pinoy Online Chess Tournament over the weekend virtually held via chess.com platform. Concio tallied Arena 50.0 points to rule the 2 day (April 16 and 17) online tilt sponsored by friends of Asenso Pinoy Party list. Concio scored a career breakthrough when he ruled the 2nd Eastern Asia Juniors and Girls Championship in Tanauan, Batangas giving him an International Master title on December 15, 2019. Concio is fresh from winning the Basta BBM-Sara Uniteam Bullet 3 Arena online chess tournament virtually held at lichess platform last April 7. “We do this to promote chess in the grassroots level and discover new sports talents,” said Arena Grandmaster Rey Urbiztondo, the brain of the tournament. International Master Ronald Dableo, a Philippine Army chess team standout who is also the head coach of the University of Santo Tomas chess team, took the second place honors with Arena 47 points. Fide Master Roel Abelgas and Grandmaster Darwin Laylo registered Arena 45 points each to place third and fourth place respectively while National Master Mark Jay Bacojo got 42 points for fifth place. The five (Concio, Dableo, Abelgas, Laylo and Bacojo) are members of the famous Dasmariñas Chess Academy of Rep. Elpidio "Pidi" Barzaga Jr. Rounding up to the top 10 were Jan Clifford Labog (sixth), Karl Victor Ochoa (seventh), International Daniel Quizon (eight), National Master Gerardo Cabellon (ninth) and Fide Master Sander Severino (tenth).
