Jayson Visca claims Gentri PCAP chess crown

PhilBoxing.com

General Trias City, Cavite--- Jayson Visca won the General Trias Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) qualifying round over the board chess tournament last Sunday, November 8, 2020 here.

Visca finished with 11 wins, 4 draws and 2 loses for a total of 13 points, the same output of Renie Malupa.

Visca, however, was proclaimed champion due to better tie break points according to Chief Arbiter NA Byron Gabrentina Villar.

"Pinilit ko ‘yung last game ko. Para makahabol ako sa magandang placing,” said Visca, who suffered his twin loses at the hands of newly installed Candidate Master (CM) Genghis Imperial in third round and Rey Jay Pascual in thirteen round.

“Kasi alam ko in case mag-tie, sa akin pa din ang title kasi alam kong mas mataas ang tie break points ko."

The 3rd-5th spots were taken by Arena Grandmaster (AGM) Almario Marlon Bernardino Jr., Rudolf Perez and Arena Grandmaster (AGM) Marc Voltaire Paraguya, who all had 12.5 points but their placement was due to their tie break points.

Rounding up to the top 10 (ten) were sixth, Israel Landicho (11.5 points), seventh, Lloyd Rubio (11.5 points), eight, Erwin Calar (10 points), ninth, Stephen Von Estavillo (10 points) and tenth, CM Genghis Imperial (9.5 points).

Tournament director and Gentri head coach Ederwin Estavillo said that the top five (5) finishers will represent the General Trias City, Cavite chess team for the first ever Professional Chess League , organized by the newly formed Professional Chess Association of the Philippines to be held next year.

The General Trias City, Cavite chess team is led by head coach Ederwin Estavillo and assistant coach Arena Grandmaster (AGM) Almario Marlon Bernardino Jr., backed up by mayor Ony Ferrer, Cong. Jon-Jon Ferrer and Sports Office head Ms. Lhen Muralla Kempiz.-Marlon Bernardino-
