Bernardino wins online chess tourney

MANILA-Arena Grandmaster (AGM) Almario Marlon Bernardino Jr. won the OJ Team bonding Arena online chess tournament on Friday, October 30, 2020 at lichess.org.
Bernardino, a certified National Master, United States chess master and sportswriter, finished with 33 points in 13 games for a win rate of 69 percent and performance rating of 2446 to win the event hosted by Jubail, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia based Jimmy Reyes.
The online tournament had time control of five minutes and players must win as many games in one hour and 40 minutes of play.
Bernardino, a former mainstay of Rizal Technological University during his College days in the mid 90's, won 9 games, drew 4 in 13 outings.
Bernardino is coming off a first-runner up finish to eventual champion Arena Grandmaster (AGM) and Fide Master elect Robert Suelo last October 27. Suelo is the top player of Rizal Technological University chess team under the watchful eye of olympian National Master Mauro Yasay.
Far Eastern University chess team standout International Master elect Dale Bernardo took the second spot with 29 points on 10 games and a win rate of 80 percent on eight wins, drew 2 for a performance rating of 2544.
In third place is another FEU stalwart John Jasper Laxamana who had 19 points on 11 games and a win rate of 64 percent on seven wins, drew 1 and 2 loses for a performance rating of 2349.-Marlon Bernardino-
