Former World Chess Olympiad member Woman National Master (WNM) Cristina Santos-Fidaer's daughter Lee-Ann finally got her first taste of chess victory after she finished for 9-11th place in the 2019 National Junior High, K 9 Unrated section chess championships was held last April 26 to 28, 2019 in Grapevine, Texas.

Lee-Ann collected 4.5 points on four wins, two loses and one draw in the seven-round tournament in this 41 player's field.

Lee-Ann scored victories over Aariv Changede in the second round, Sai Darsh Kandukuri in the third round, Brennon Graham Bass in the fifth round and Shondale Brown in the sixth and penultimate round.

She split the point with Tristan Lee Fulghum in the first round but yielded to Braxton Scott Brown Lee in the fourth round and Jeremiah Lee West Brook in the seventh and final round.

"My chess people, send me a like over here! It was a long, full 3-day tournament. A very memorable experience for us. Fun yes but also really tough!! Final points is 4.5 out of 7 rounds. She lost (Lee-Ann) the last round. A win would have placed her 2nd and 3rd. The loss brought her to 9th place. It was an amazing feat being her first rated tournament, in the unrated section of Scholastics Nationals, K-9, Junior High open with no age category. Fantastic experience, we love the energy in the event. There are thousands of kids representing their schools from all over the US. Lee-Ann maintained her composure, the most painful for her was of course the lost of the last round. She recovered from disappointment eventually after when all the results came in and found out she still placed. She is the only girl in her section that placed and also the youngest." Former World Chess Olympiad member Woman National Master (WNM) Cristina Santos-Fidaer post her Facebook account.

The US based WNM Cristina who hails from Tayuman, Manila and Bacoor, Cavite, then 14, was the third board of the women's team that placed 21st in the 1988 World Chess Olympiad in Thessaloniki, Greece. This is the best performance by the women's team in the Olympiad according to Chess Guru Ignacio Dee.

Jaxon Green won the title with perfect 7 points. Braxton Scott Brown Lee and Juan Carlos Rivera, meantime finished 2nd and 3rd placers with 5.5 points apiece.-Marlon Bernardino
