PH chess wizard Alexandra Sydney Paez off to good start in NAGCC

The Philippines? chess wizard, Alexandra Sydney Paez, had a good start in the 2019 National Age-Group Chess Championships (NAGCC)- Luzon Leg being held at the Pacific Mall in Legazpi City, Albay.

Backed up by Cabuyao City, Laguna mayor Rommel A. Gecolea, Cabuyao City Chess Club, Jolly Smile Dental Clinic and Colegio de San Juan de Letran Calamba, Alexandra Sydney, defeated General Trias City, Cavite bet Jeanelle Cabatian in the first round then subdued local bet Deanne Clarice Bea in the second round.

?It?s a good start for Alexandra Sydney (Paez), I hope she can perform well in the 2019 National Age- Group Chess Championships (NAGCC)- Luzon Leg," said Laguna Chess Association (LCA) top honcho Dr. Alfredo "Fred" Paez, father of Alexandra Sydney.

The grade 9 student of Colegio de San Juan de Letran Calamba, Alexandra Sydney improved to a total of 2.0 points to share 1st to 6th places with Ruth Joy Vinuya, Josemier Jene Panol, Queenie Almonte and Jona Kris Llantino, her third round opponent in the Girls 16 and under division hosted by Legaspi City mayor Noel Rosal.

The Top three (3) will advance to the Grand Finals. Top three (3) in the Grand finals will earn tickets for the 20th Asean Chess Age-Group Chess Championships to be held Malanday, Myanmar on June 9 to 19.

Alexandra Sydney who is fresh from winning the 1st Saint Anthony Development Chess Cup last February 23 are also schedule to play in the Visayas Leg of 2019 National Youth & School Chess Championships (Under 15-Girls) on March 29 to 31 in Bacolod City as well the 2019 Chinese Tapei Chess Association (CTCA) International Chess Open on July 17 to 25 at the International Hall, Second Floor, Ambassador Hotel in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.-Marlon Bernardino-
