MP PROMOTIONS PRESENTS "BATTLE IN MANILA" FOR WBC CONVENTION By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Wed, 07 Nov 2007 The MP Promotions of superstar Manny Pacquiao will present a ten-bout card on November 14 at the SM Mall of Asia as part of the WBC's 45th Annual World Convention. The WBC's convention this year will officially kick off on November 12 at the Manila Hotel, with no less than Philippine President Her Excellency Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in attendance, according to GAB Chairman Eric Buhain, who is leading the preparations of this historic event. Leading the card is the grudge encounter between Filipino Jimrex "The Executioner" Jaca and Japan' Ryu Miyagi. Jaca and Miyagi had an explosive first encounter last August 25 at the same venue which ended in a technical draw, and this time, both fighters have vowed to put closure into their rivalry. Three Philippine title bouts are also lined up on the undercard, with RP superfeatherweight titlist Dodie Boy Agrabio staking his title against Aaron Melgarejo. RP superbantam boss Jake Verano of Bukidnon will also risk his crown against Jun Talape, while Arniel Tinampay and Dondon Sultan will vie for the vacant RP welterweight title. A 10-round PBF title bout is also included in the card featuring Balweg Bangoyan defending his 122-lb title against Cris Besmanos. A special 6-round bout between Japanese Naozumi Tsuchiyama and Filipino William Jorge is also up on the card. The rest of the bouts pit Roel Laguna versus Edgar Gabejan; Danilo Pena against Richard Olisa; Ali Cali against Ronel Ferreras; and Juan Martin Elorde versus Glen Mondol. The Games and Amusements Board (GAB) projects the event as ?professional boxing with a heart? as GAB Chairman Eric Buhain and WBC president Jose Sulaiman are also set to visit charitable institutions as part of their activities for the conference which expects to gather more than 600 foreign delegates as well as 400 local representatives.
