NBA -- Davis carries Pelicans over Blazers, Simmons shines for Sixers By Absalon Inocian, Jr. PhilBoxing.com Mon, 16 Apr 2018 ![]() NEW ORLEANS -- The New Orleans Pelicans hadn't won a playoffs game in six years. The first one was sweet and special. Anthony Davis, a five-time All-Star and MVP candidate, led the charge with 35 points 14 rebounds and four blocks, carrying New Orleans to a hard-fought 97-95 victory Saturday night at the Moda Center, Jrue Holiday added 21 points and 7 boards, including a defensive gem in the final seconds of play that quashed Portland's hope of a comeback. Rajon Rondo, an old-timer from the Celtics's championship run in 2008 had a game for the ages. The 32-year old point guard only had six points, but he registered 17 assists. Ian Clark, a former Golden State Warriors, chipped in 10 for New Orleans, which made 41 of 86 field goals and 8-of-24 from 3-point distance. Home court advantage didn't do much for the Blazers, who converted only 37 of 98 field goals (37.8 percent) and 12 of 39 triples (30.8 percent). As expected, Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum led Portland's offense with a combined 37 points but they missed 25 of their 38 shots. Jusuf Norkic had 11 points ans 11 rebounds for Portland and Evan Turner contributed 13. SIXERS 130, HEAT 103. The Philadlphia 76ers proved too much for the Miami Heat, who fell, 130-103, at the Wells Fargo Center. Ben Simmons showed the way with 17 points, 9 rebounds and 14 assists. J.J. Redick hit 8 triples to log 28 points while Ersan Ilyasova added 17 and 14 rebounds. Mrco Belinelli was superb off the bench with 25 points and Dario Saric chipped in 20. Kelly Olynyk led Miami with 26 and 7 rebounds. "In the second half, we let the flood gates go," Miami head coach Erik Spoelstra told the Miami Herald after his team got hammered 74-43 in the second half.
