DONAIRE TRAINING UPDATE! By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Wed, 24 Oct 2007 CEBU CITY--IBF and IBO flyweight champion Nonito Donaire is now in full swing with his training at the ALA Gym in preparation for his December 1 mandatory defense against Luis Maldonado in Connecticut. Donaire did a two-hour workout today at the ALA Gym consisting of hitting the mitts and other exercises, and looked very powerful in delivering his punches. Donaire and his father Nonito Sr then dropped by the swanky Ayala Center after the afternoon training session to visit an internet cafe to check emails. In the morning, Donaire ran uphill for about 45 minutes at the gated Vista Grande village here where he and his father are currently staying at the mansion of US-based Jun Laquindanum. "This is the perfect place for me to train. We are so glad we've decided to train here in Cebu. Thanks to Mr. Aldeguer and Mr. Jun Laquindanum, as well as Cebu City Councilor Jack Jakosalem for making us feel so at home," said the young champion Donaire. The Vista Grande is adjacent to the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club where superstar Manny Pacquiao conducted his uphill runs for the Marco Antonio Barrera rematch. Tomorrow, the sweet-punching Donaire is slated to spar four rounds against Philippine flyweight king Rocky Fuentes after a flat course run in the morning at the Cebu City Sports Complex. Others expected to spar with Donaire in the course of his month-long training at the ALA Gym are Rey 'Boom Boom' Bautista, RP bantam champ Michael Domingo, and young fighter Weng Haya. Meanwhile, Cebu sportsman Antonio L. Aldeguer will tender a welcome dinner for the Donaires tomorrow to introduce the young fighter and his dad to the Aldeguer family at their mansion at the ultra-exclusive Maria Luisa Village here. Aldeguer owns the ALA Gym, which is also the training ground for WBO minimumweight champion Donnie Nietes.
