NBA -- 2017 China Global Games a mega hit (PHOTOS)

PhilBoxing.com

SHANGHAI -- Two game dates plus two NBA teams clashing equals one big spectacle.

That, in a nutshell, is the story of the 2017 China Global Games as a sea of humanity, united in its deep passion for basketball, converged at
two separate venues --- the Shenzhen Universaide Center and the Mercedes Benz Arena in Shanghai --- to witness the Golden State Warriors battle the Minnesota Timberwolves.

While the jousts were only preseason games, both squads put on a
brilliant show in front of ecstatic fans in a corner of the world where the NBA reigns supreme when it comes to fan following and enthusiasm.

In the October 5 match in Shenzhen, the Timberwolves came back from a 13-point deficit to turn the tables on the defending champions, 111-97. The key to Minnesota's victory was shooting 12 of 26 triples and 25 of 29 free throws as Golden State went only 10 of 31 from long distance ad was uncharacteristically flat from the free throw stripe, 13 of 25.

Karl Anthony Towns and former Bull Jimmy Butler each had 16 points to pace the Timberwolves. Andrew Wiggins and Taj Gibson combined for 27 points while Jeff Teague 8 points and 4 dimes.

But in the rematch three nights later at the Mercedes Benz Arena, the Warriors showed all and sundry why they are the kings of the NBA hill, slaying the Wolves going away, 142-110.

Steph Curry played like, well, Steph Curry and exploded for 40 points on 13 of 20 shooting from the field. Klay Thompson reminded us all why he was a former 3-point shoout-out champion, swishing 8 of 10 threes on the way to 28 points.

And with Kevin Durant joining the scoring fest with 22 more, the Timberwolves simply didn't have the firepower to keep pace.

Golden State sank 51 of 85 field goals for blistering 60 percent clip. They also nailed 20 of 32 triples and 21 of 25 free throws. In contrast, Minnesota sank just 36 of 73 field goals, 7 of 23 triples and 31 of 37 free throws.

Besides the two goodwill games. the NBA provided extra treat via NBA Cares events and the NBA Fan Zone in Shanghai, which proved to be an absolute hit.

Besides current players from both the Warriors and T-Wolves rosters, a few of the NBA's legends were also in attendance, including Dikembe Motumbo. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver was also on hand.

Photos: Steph Curry and NBA Commissioner Adam Silver were among the luminaries who graced the Global Games with their illustrious presence. There were so many thrills in the two-game encounter, too many to put into words; But to paraphrase and old adage, these pictures paint a thousand words. (photos@phiboxing).
