FIDE CONFERS IM TITLE TO HAMED NOURI

The World Chess Federation (Fide) has conferred the International Master title to Hamed Nouri during the 88th FIDE Congress 2017in Goynuk, Antalya, Turkey this month of October.

Nouri, the pride of Escalante City, Negros Occidental, earned his third and final IM norm in the 7th HDBank international open - Master tournament last March 12 to 18, 2017 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

He got his first IM norm during the 13th Bangkok Chess Club Open 2013 in Bangkok, Thailand last April 14 to 21, 2013 and followed his second IM norm in the 2016 National Championship - Finals (Open) in Manila last June 19 to 27, 2016.

Nouri is currently number 21 in the FIDE-Philippines top 100 list with an ELO rating of 2355 with Julio Catalino Sadorra still number one with 2558. His best 2432 highest ELO rating got at the 2007 Asian Zonal Chess Championships in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Nouri is best to remember winning the prestigious 1997 Cebu Leg National Shell Youth Active Chess Championships.

He attributed his success to hard work and got his big break in the international chess arena after National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) head Prospero "Butch" Pichay Jr. offering the former residing to Manila.

"Si Cong. (Butch) Pichay ay inoperan ako na mag stay na sa Manila kasama ang family ko para makapag focus sa chess career ko at sa chess career na din ng anak kong si Alekhine," said Nouri together his wife Mrs. Rhoda Fabiosa-Nouri who gave up their chicken poultry business in Escalante City to focus on their chess career.

He thanked Cong. Prospero "Butch" Pichay Jr., Atty. Cliburn Anthony Orbe and her wife Mrs. Rhoda Fabiosa-Nouri for their undying support of his professional chess career.

Nouri along his son Alekhine are busy preparing for this Sunday's battle of the chess prodigy of the longest running National Shell Youth Active Chess at the Mall of Asia in Pasay City.

World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen of Norway remained number one in the World (Standard play) after tallying 2826 ELO rating points in the latest FIDE October 2017 list.

Carlsen also took number spot in the Rapid play top 100 players after accumulating 2909 ELO rating poiints. He also dominated the Blitz Top 100 players with 2948.

World Cup champion Levon Aronian of Armenia took number two spot in the Standard play with an ELO rating points of 2801.

Three players was tied at Number 3 to Number 5 spot after garnering 2794 ELO rating points such as Maxime Vachier-Lagrave of France, Fabiano Caruana of USA and Vladimir Kramnik of Russia, in order.

Competing the top Ten list are No.6 Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (ELO 2791) of Azerbaijan, No.7 Filipino Wesley So (ELO 2788) of the USA, No.8 Alexander Grischuk (ELO 2785) of Russia, No.9 Viswanathan Anand (ELO 2783) of India and No.10 Hikaru Nakamura (ELO 2774) of the USA.

World Cup finalist Ding Liren of China, who lost to Aronian in the World Cup finals, the one who eliminated So, is in No.11 spot with an ELO rating of 2772.

Russia still number one in the World in the Countries top with an Average rating of 2744 based on Country rank by average rating of top 10 players.

Three Chinese players are over-all leader in their respective brackets. They are Hou, Yifan 2678 (Standard top 100 Women), Wei, Yi 2740 (Standard top Juniors) and Lei, Tingjie 2528 (Standard top girls).
