?WHO?S NEXT?? 5 IN MANDAUE CITY OCT.27 By Rene Bonsubre, Jr. PhilBoxing.com Fri, 22 Sep 2017 CEBU ? There will be a civil war of sorts next month at the Mandaue City Sports Complex. Omega Pro Sports International (OPSI) revealed Friday that the fifth installment of their ?WHO?S NEXT?? boxing series will feature an all-Filipino cast with twelve bouts on deck. Headlining the event will be Jhaleel Payao ( 15W-1L,9KO?s) of the Omega gym who will be pitted against Renerio Arizala (13W-7L-2D,5KO?s) of the Pe?alosa Stable. Payao will be defending his Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) bantamweight title he won last March by 5th round TKO against Jason Tinampay in Masbate. Arizala has faced many good Pinoy fighters, losing to the likes of Ardin Diale, Genesis Libranza and Jake Bornea and a win against Romnick Magos. The main supporting bout will be a ten rounder between two tough guys ? Jason Canoy (26W-7L-2D,19KO?s) of the Omega Gym and Eugene ?Rambo" Lagos (11-4-2,7KO?s) of the Kamino Stable. The undercard fights will also have interesting local match-ups like Kenny Demecillo vs Gerpaul Valero, undefeated up and comer Tomjune Mangubat vs Crisanto Contemprato, Salatiel Amit vs Ramil Antaran, Jimboy Haya vs Elias Joaquino plus six more matches. OPSI officials Jerome Calatrava (C, far end of the table), Angel dela Merced (R) and James Osorio (L) discuss with the members of the Cebu sports media the launching of 'Whos Next 5?' at Boosog Restaurant in Cebu City Friday. On hand during the press conference were OPSI VP Jerome Calatrava, Promoter and Omega advertising manager Angel dela Merced and Omega Gym manager James Osorio. Calatrava said that depending on Payao?s performance on October 27, he could be tapped to fight for a WBO regional belt in the near future. ?WHO?S NEXT?? 5 was supposed to be held last July in Bohol but the shoulder injury of world ranked Christian Araneta cancelled the show. Araneta is finishing his rehab mid-October and OPSI told members of the media that if the doctor clears him, Araneta will resume training and will be back in action around January or February 2018.
