NOT THE END OF THE WORLD FOR TAPALES AFTER LOSING THEN WINNING

PhilBoxing.com

Marlon Tapales lost the WBO bantamweight title at the scales. He consequently won the supposed title fight by an eleventh-round TKO of Japanese Shohei Omori in his foe's home country in Osaka. It's not the end of the world for the Wakee Salud fighter at least in the search for another crown.

He would strive for another title shot at the higher superbantamweight division. But the road to the second belt is like a steep rocky mountain climb with WBC king Rey Vargas, WBO ruler Jessie Magdaleno or WBA holder Guillermo Rigondeaux (all undefeated) and IBF champ Yukinori Oguni (with one loss) are waiting for his quest.

But the Lanao del Norte native is not new to beating the odds as he won the WBO bantamweight diadem against Thai champion Pungluang Sor Singyu by downing him in the sixth before knocking him out in the eleventh round to win before the adverse crowd in Ayutthaya, Thailand.

WBC/WBA/IBF middleweight champion Gennady G. Golovkin will bypass a proposed fight with WBO titlist Billy Joe Saunders of United Kingdom. That shows how serious GGG is in facing the winner of the blockbuster Saul Canelo Alvarez vs. Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. encounter this Cinco de Mayo celebration.

K2 Promotions managing director Tom Loeffler was quoted by ESPN: "We'll see what happens. If Chavez wins, we'd love to have a Chavez fight, also. If Canelo wins, that would be the priority." The Canelo-GGG tiff might finally going to happen but the red-haired Ring middleweight champ has to hurdle the son of a legendary Mexican fighter first.

Unbeaten Anthony Joshua will face the legendary Wladimir Klitschko in front of 90,000 spectators at the Wembley Stadium with his IBF world heavyweight title at stake this coming Saturday (Sunday Philippine time). Joshua was born in Watford, Hertfordshire, England to Nigerian-born parents.

Joshua was a gold medalist both at the 2012 London Olympics and Baku World Championships. At 27 years old and perfect 18-0 (18 KO's) record, he was heavily favored to win over the 41-year-old Klitschko who has a slate of 64-4 with 53 KO wins. The Ukrainian was a 1996 Atlanta Olympic gold medalist. Both boxers excelled in the super-heavyweight division.
