MAGSAYO DROPS ROBLES TWICE EN ROUTE TO A WIDE DECISION WIN By Dong Secuya PhilBoxing.com Sun, 25 Sep 2016 CARSON, CA -- In what was expected to be a short night for last minute replacement Ramiro Robles of Mexico and a spectacular stoppage win for Mark Magsayo, dragged into 12 full rounds as Robles's durability and the southpaw swarming style took away Maysayo's timing most of the fight and even though he floored the Mexican two times, once in the second and once in the 7th, Magsayo could not put away Robles for good in the main undercard of the Nietes-Sosa WBO international flyweight bout at the StubHub Center here Saturday night. Magsayo won by a landslide but somehow muted the crowd's excitement as the story shifted more on Robles's capacity to take hard punishment and never say die attitude than Magsayo's ability to control the fight. Judge Max DeLuca had it118-108, Alejandro Rochin 119-107 and Tom Taylor 120-106 all for Magsayo. Robles started fast from the getgo throwing right jabs and wing lefts as Magsayo tried to figure out Robles. In the second, Magsayo pressed the issue connecting to the body and head of Robles but the Mexican took them well. A right counter to the face drops Robles midway in the second. In the third round onward Robles continued his swarming offensive and even if he was stopped on his tracks by a crunching right or a left uppercut, the never say die Mexican continued to plod on. A body shot by Magsayo dropped Robles in the 7th after Magsayo scored successively with uppercuts. From there the only question was if Magsayo could finally stop Robles but the Mexican warrior, who went full rounds against Golden Boy undefeated prospects Diego de la Hoya and Joseph Diaz was too proud to surrender and finished the fight with his head up high. Magsayo has now upped his undefeated record to 15-0-0 with 11 knockouts while Robles dropped to 13-6-1, 8KOs. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Dong Secuya. |
