AGUELO STOPS BETOS IN FOUR ROUNDS IN MAASIN CITY FIESTA BOUTS

PhilBoxing.com

Rex Wakee Salud boxing luminary Adones Aguelo dominated Richard Betos from the first round until he stopped him with combinations to the body and head in the fourth round at the Maasin City Gym. Aguelo, who hails from Barangay Matin-aw of this city, showed amazing brawn and dexterity to the amazement of the home fans last Tuesday, a day after the fiesta celebration.

Betos countered with some upper cuts and straights but most of them just hit the air. Aguelo?s solid fortress was just too hard to break through. The Barobo, Surigao del Sur native tasted the sting of the Philippine Boxing Federation?s punches in the third round and he began to clinch. He had been running away from Aguelo?s blows right from the start.

The former Asian Boxing Council interim superbantamweight champion Betos kissed the canvas early in the fourth round never to get up. Referee Tony Pesons counted him out and declared Aguelo the winner by knockout just 44 seconds of the fourth canto.

Aguelo fought some of the best international fighters of his superfeatherweight division like Colombian Miguel Marriaga, American Casey Ramos, Australian Will Tomlison, and Mexican Sergio Thompson and fought a good fight inspite of his losses.

In the undercard Edward Joaquino of Siargao won by unanimous decision over Ryan Tampus of Bato, Leyte in a scheduled ten-rounder. Anthony Sabaldeof Cebu City defeated Jun Ryan Quimbo of Compostela, Cebu by TKO in the second round. Gerpaul Valero of Mandaue City had a technical draw with Jason Tinapay of Bohol due to the latter?s cut in the eye. Anthony Galigao of Bohol prevailed over Sempay Flores of Cebu City by split decision in six rounds.

In the preliminary amateur bouts, eight out of nine Maasin City boxers defeated their respective opponents from different towns. Simon Arsul defeated Jeffrey Cafe of Macrohon by unanimous decision, Roel Galo d. Gino Guzo of Matalom by UD, Jerald Pagara (brother of Albert and Jason) d. Joebert Tomoling of Matalom by 1st Rd. TKO, Shaquille Miole d. Marfe Alaba of Macrohon by 2nd Rd. TKO, Jay Marco Floren d. Mark Kein Edillo of Libagon by 1st Rd. TKO, Jeffrey Orello d. Jobert Caga of Bohol by 2nd Rd. TKO, Daryl Ramos d. Viernice Amaro of San Juan by 1st Rd. TKO, and Romie Evale d. Ronel Piamonte of San Juan by 1st Rd. TKO. Only Louie Forzado lost to Romar Piamonte by split decision.
