LEAGUE OF FISTS: ABULIMITI CLINCHES WELTER FINALS SLOT

PhilBoxing.com

SHANGHAI, CHINA ? The remaining semi-final match for the first season of the League of Fists boxing tournament had a decisive result Saturday when Abulimiti Tuersunniyazi beat Ning Xinbo to secure a spot in the welterweight finals.

This was a rematch of the semis match that ended in a draw last April 29.

This time, Abulimiti exploited his height advantage and avoided trading with Ning at close quarters for most of the bout. Abulimiti also was more effective with his lateral movement, finding good angles to land hard one-two combos. He shifted his attack to Ning?s body in the second round.

It was only in third round that Ning managed to cut the ring off and employ phone booth warfare. But Abulimit adjusted and continued to land power shots and then move away before Ning could counter. In the sixth and final round, Ning tried a last ditch assault but it was not enough.

The scores ? Edward Ligas - 60-54, Surat Soikrachang - 58-56, Sungworn Klungboonkrung ?59-55. The referee was Atty.Danrex Tapdasan.

Abulimiti, who is 4-1-1, 3KO?s, will face Jin Yangcheng in the finals.

The other season one semi-final bout to end in a draw was between bantamweights Zhi Quan Xie and Ji Tao. The tie breaker was held last May 14 with Zhi prevailing by unanimous decision in six rounds. Zhi is penned to face Yelieqiati in the bantam finals.

For the season two matches:

Super lightweights Bayinmandufu and Jiang Zhihao battled to a four round majority draw. The scorecards ? Edward Ligas 37-39, Surat Soikrachang and Mekin Sumon ? 38-38.

Hu Liang relied on a strong finish to beat Wang Yangyang by majority decision in their super flyweight match. Scores ? Danrex Tapdasan and Sungworn Klungboonkrung ? 39-37, Yin Haiyang ? 38-38.

Middleweight Wulamu Tulake dropped Chang Shaoheng with a counter right hook in the opening round and finished the job by sending Chang down again with another swift volley prompting Referee Surat Soikrachang to stop the fight at the 1:18 mark.

In another superflyweight tussle, Diao Zhiqing bore the brunt of Zhao Jun?s offense from the opening bell; Zhao pinned Diao on the ropes, receiving punches and unable to fire back prompting Referee Mekin Sumon to stop the fight at 1:20 of the first round.

In the second super lightweight bout, Yang Yongqiang dropped Saierlan Muerzhabieke in round one and rode the momentum in round two, battering Saierlan till he turned his back prompting Referee Surat Soikrachang to stop it at the 1:48 mark.

In the evening?s second middleweight fight, Huang Juxiang beat Zhao Qi by TKO in the second round. Huang trapped Zhao in his own corner and pummeled him prompting Zhao?s cornerman to signal that his boxer has had enough.

Super flyweight Zhou Bin overcame his height disadvantage to beat Maheshati Asilanbieke by majority decision. Scores ? Edward Ligas ? 38-38, Zhu Yuwen and Mekin Sumon ? 40-36.

The second of a back to back fight card was held at Yun Space, Elite Valley in Shanghai and officiated by the Professional Boxing Commission of China (PBCC). The League of Fists boxing tournament is promoted by Seca and Top Rank. The matches for season one?s tournament finals is set this June on separate fight dates. The winners will be crowned Greater China champions in their respective divisions by the WBO.
