PACQUIAO POSTPONED DEPARTURE AGAIN By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Tue, 07 Aug 2007 Manny Pacquiao, the concern of trainer Freddie Roach growing each day, once again postponed his scheduled departure for the US on Sunday making it the fifth such change in plans. Instead of leaving for Los Angeles to begin training on August 4 as earlier promised Roach, Pacquiao flew to Cebu with trainer Restituto "Buboy" Fernandez to sign the renewal of his endorsement contract with MLhuillier according to Pacquiao’s close friend and confidant Rex "Wakee" Salud. However, Salud disclosed that the signing didn’t push through because Lhuillier was out of town. He said Pacquiao returned to Manila and was scheduled to take the 10:00 p.m. Philippine Airlines flight to Los Angeles along with Fernandez and lawyer Franklin Gacal. Roach had earlier told Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today that if Pacquiao didn’t arrive to begin training for his October 6 rematch with legendary Mexican Marco Antonio Barrera, he would "begin to get worried." Roach warned that Barrera would be well prepared and Pacquiao will be in for a tough fight, unlike the eleven round demolition in their first battle in November 2003 in San Antonio, Texas. Barrera himself has said he is determined to avenge that defeat and re-establish his standing as the top pound-for-pound fighter in the world today which is an accolade given Pacquiao by many boxing writers although the "Bible" of boxing, Ring Magazine, has Pacquiao at No. 2 behind Floyd Mayweather.
