Pinoy Ricky Sismundo loses a questionable Split Decision to Jose Felix Jr. in California By Rich Mazon PhilBoxing.com Sun, 31 Jan 2016 Filipino Ricky Sismundo traveled half the world to California only to be on the losing end of a debatable and questionable Split Decision loss to a younger and taller Jose Felix Jr of Los Mochis, Sinaloa Mexico. Sismundo, 28, a native of Bohol but who now fights out of Yokohama, Japan, emerged out of his underdog status and came out ready to pull the upset against Felix Jr., 23, in a ten round lightweight bout at the Marriott Convention Center in Burbank. Aggressive and determined, Sismundo pressured his Mexican foe throughout the fight, forcing him to the ropes and hitting him with hard left hooks that swayed Felix Jr.'s head to the side. Felix Jr., despite his advantage in height and reach was unable to ward off the Filipino fighter's offensive. Sismundo was able to get in close to his Top Rank promoted opponent with his full scale offensive. The shorter Sismundo timed his shots perfectly against Felix Jr. who had no room to move against Sismundo's crowding tactics and no answer against the Filipino's left hooks. A questionable deduction against Sismundo at the end of the 6th, which Referee Zac Young blamed on his late hit on his opponent was a crucial point that would have turned this match into a draw after the scores from ringside were tallied after 10 rounds. Two judges at ringside, Daniel Sandoval and Jonathan Davis scored the fight for Felix Jr., the house fighter, with scores of 96-93 and 95-94 while Judge Max De Luca had it 95-94 for Sismundo. Felix Jr. improved his record to 33-1-1 while Sismundo accumulated his 9th loss against 30 wins and 2 draws. You can reach the author at rrmaze24@aol.com and @Freemazon910 on Twitter.
