NBA -- Clips spank Blazers, rise to 4th place in the West
By Homer D. Sayson PhilBoxing.com Fri, 08 Jan 2016

CHICAGO -- With their star Blake Griffin sitting out a stretch of games with a partially torn left quad, the Los Angeles Clippers are taking care of business just fine.
All-Star point guard Chris Paul tallied 21 points and 19 assists while J.J. Redick drilled 20 as Clips stretched their winning streak to seven games following a 109-98 conquest over the Blazers at the Mode Center in Portland on Wednesday night.
Paul Pierce turned back the clock with 17 points and Austin Rivers added 16 to help Los Angeles keep the NBA's longest active winning streak alive. The Clips, who led by as many as 23 points in the first half, made 42 of 83 field goals and 11 of 23 from 3-point range.
"Now we're playing a lot smoother. We're just trying to hold down until the big fella gets back. I'm going to keep saying this: we're holding this together 'till 32 gets back," Paul told NBA.com.
Damian Lillard led the Blazers with 20 points and nine assists, but the All-Star court general couldn't find any traction on offense, making just 7-of-25 shots. Mason Plumlee contributed 19 points and nine boards for Portland, which shot just 44.2 percent from the field (38-of-86) and 34.6 percent from 3-point range (9-of-26).
With an improved 23-13 record, the Clippers moved up to No.4 in the Western Conference standings. The Blazers dropped to 15-23, 10th place in the West.
