GANOY RETAINS IBF TITLE IN LOPSIDED WIN By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Sat, 09 Jun 2007 Hard-hitting Filipino Ranee Ganoy retained his IBF Pan Pacific lightweight title against Indonesia’s Joey de Ricardo with a lopsided unanimous decision at the Mansfield Tavern in Brisbane, Australia on Friday night. The 27 year old Ganoy who is based in Sydney is managed by Dido Bohol who migrated to Australia several years ago and is trained by his sons Jeffrey and Hermie Bohol. Ganoy who won the IBF regional title with an eighth round KO of former WBC super featherweight title challenger Robbie Peden last March 9 in Peden’s hometown of Brisbane completely dominated the fight against de Ricardo with his jab and his powerful right hand but was unable to score a knockout. Two of the three judges had Ganoy winning every single round with Adrian Cairns scoring it 120-108 and Derek Milham 120-107. The third judge Wally Lewis had Ganoy the winner 118-110. Ganoy who is regarded as a crowd pleaser by Australian boxing fans because of his aggressive style and punching power was coming off a big win against Peden who had lost a twelve round decision in a title fight against Marco Antonio Barrera on September 17, 2005 and was favored to beat Ganoy. But the rugged Filipino had Peden in trouble with some big shots several times in the fight before Peden’s corner threw in the towel in the eighth round as Ganoy nailed the Australian with a series of vicious blows. The latest win over de Ricardo improved Ganoy’s record to 23-10-2 with 19 knockouts. It was only the second defeat of Joey de Ricardo who dropped to 11-2-2 with 7 knockouts. He was coming off a 5th round TKO over Richard Sandikal last October 12. The Indonesian fought the Philippines Czar Amonsot to a controversial draw in a ten round bout in Jakarta on March 22, 2005.
