Samaco PhilBoxing.com Tue, 21 Apr 2015 The City Government of Maasin honors The Prince of Philippine boxing Albert Pagara Monday during the flag raising ceremony of the city employees at the Maasin City Gym. This was in recognition to his successful International Boxing Federation intercontinental superbantamweight title defense when he stopped Mexican challenger Rodolfo "Fofo" Hernandez during the 30th edition of the Pinoy Pride series at the Araneta Coliseum last March 28. D-Day was shown over ABS-CBN and millions of Pagara fans all over the world witnessed how the young ALA Gym darling of the crowd battered the Mexican knockout artist. A motorcade followed the awarding ceremony along the major thoroughfares of Maasin City. Then Pagara stopped at the capitol building and paid a courtesy call to Southern Leyte Gov. Roger Mercado who was impressed of his performance against his foe. Albert visited his relatives and friends at Barangay Lib-og and all the people of his village welcomed him led by his uncle Barangay Captain Walter Sepe. Pagara's smoking arsenal bombed Hernandez and knocked him down in the very first round. The Mexican allegedly injured his right hand when he failed to hurt the solid body of the champ and absorbed lots of stinging punches from the Prince. Hernandez did not answer the bell for the fifth round. "I thank the city government of Maasin for this recognition," said Pagara after accepting his award. "I am proud to be from Maasin City and I am very grateful for all your support." Albert bared that he will fight in Dubai together with brother Jason against Mexicans in an ALA Gym promotion which is the 31st edition of Pinoy Pride. This is the 3rd time Albert was awarded in Maasin City. First time was when he defeated Hugo Partida by 1st round KO, then when he outclassed Raul Hirales in 12 rounds and the latest TKO win over Hernandez. All three fights against Mexicans were IBF intercontinental championships. Photo shows from left to right: City Administrator Atty.
