MAYWEATHER VS. PACQUIAO QUOTES (PART 1)

PhilBoxing.com

May 2, 2015 is the day the world of sports is eagerly waiting. Floyd Mayweather, Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao is almost six years in the making and was even adjudged The Ring Boxing Event of the Year 2010 even if did not happen. We will be featuring some interesting quotes from different boxing personalities and scribes until fight time to spice up "The Fight of the Century" also known as "Battle for Greatness."

SportsbookReview.com analyst Lee Phelps as quoted by The Ring:

?Pacquiao has advantages in power and age, and he is a southpaw. Speculation suggests Floyd doesn?t like fighting lefties and many believe that is why the fight has never happened. He?s been waiting for Manny to slow down first. Mayweather has reach, speed, and supreme defensive ability ? so he is hard to hit, let alone knock down. His age and lack of top level opposition count against him. That is all speculation. What we do know is this fight would generate $300 million and may not live up to the hype, with Pacquiao lunging in with fists flying, but unable to connect with as much as he would like. I see a Mayweather points win and a frustrated Pacquiao.?

British boxer Amir Khan told the Daily Mail:

"Four years ago it would have been a massive fight because both of them were at their peak. It might have gone past that now. It will be a good fight for a couple of rounds. I think it will go the distance but that Mayweather will win by unanimous decision."

Jaime Ortega of Boxing News 24 said:

" I got Pacquiao in this fight, his bouncing back and forth will drive Mayweather nuts. Cotto believes so, so does Teddy Atlas who till recently hold the opposite view. If you are a Mayweather fan, you should be nervous because this is a different league with a fighter on Pacquiao, who has ring experience, scars of knowledge, and a big smile who is eager to show his worth come May 2nd."

Brian Campbell of ESPN opined:

"At 36, Pacquiao has inexplicably kept his top-shelf speed. And despite retaining his pound-for-pound stranglehold on the sport, Mayweather showed in two 2014 fights with Marcos Maidana that he has slowed just enough entering his 38th birthday. The key question for me is this: When was the last time you saw Mayweather face anyone with Pacquiao's speed or his combination of movement and power? And while Floyd is the master at shutting down traditional offense, Pacquiao still disguises his punches well by throwing from awkward angles. In a fight that I believe is destined to be close on the scorecards, look for the judges to favor Pacquiao's aggressiveness late."
