NBA -- Hornets rally from 19 down, sting Bulls, 101-91 By Katherine Margaret Huber PhilBoxing.com Sat, 14 Mar 2015 CHICAGO -- After taking a 40-21 lead in the 10:51 mark of the second quarter, the visiting Chicago Bulls appeared to be on easy street against the reeling Charlotte Hornets, who entered Friday night's game on a two-game losing skid. But like those frigid Chicago winters, the Bulls went cold the rest of the way, scoring just 10 points in the third quarter and 31 in the entire second half as the Hornets pulled a stunning 101-91 reversal at the Time Warner Cable Arena. After an explosive start where they scored 35 first-quarter points and drilled 11-of-14 first-half 3s, the Bulls converted only 26 percent of their field goals in the second half and sank only 31 of 82 shots overall (37.8 percent). Chicago swished 15 triples, eight more than Charlotte, but the Hornets pummeled the Bulls on the boards, 55-36. "The first quarter was as well as we played all year, but then the last three quarters the second shots got us. So much of rebounding is will and determination and the Hornets are fighting for a playoffs spot," Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau told ESPN. Gerald Henderson had 20 points to lead seven Hornets who scored in double figures. Mo Williams had 18 points while Michael Kidd-Gilchrist got 13. Marvin Williams pitched in 12 while Bismack Biyombo, Jason Maxiell and Kemba Walker submitted 1o apiece. "That's a terrific win. Not just because it's a win, but because of the way we won," Hornets head coach Steve Clifford said after his team improved to 29-35, a half-game ahead of the 29-36 Miami Heat for the 8th and last playoffs berth in the Eastern Conference. Aaron Brooks scored 24 points to lead the Bulls, who played without Derrick Rose (torn meniscus), Jimmy Butler (sprained elbow) and Taj Gibson (sprained ankle). Pau Gasol had 18 points and eight boards and Tony Snell chipped in 17. Nikola Mirotic and Doug McDermott combined for 28 off the bench but it wasn't enough as Chicago fell to 40-27, fourth place in the Eastern Conference and two games behind the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Central Division.
