RESULTS FROM "DANGER ZONE" IN SARANGANI: "THE GENERAL" JETHER OLIVA WINS WBF ASIAN TITLE IN GLAN, SARANGANI By Carlos Costa PhilBoxing.com Mon, 06 Oct 2014 In a lopsided but entertaining battle, world-rated Filipino 112-pounder Jether "The General" Oliva (22-2-2, 10 KO's) dominated tough Indonesian journeyman Jemmy "Boom Boom" Gobel over ten rounds to claim the blue/golden World Boxing Federation (WBF) Asia Pacific Flyweight belt on Sunday (Oct 5) at Glan Municipal Gym in Sarangani, Philippines. With the win, the 27-year-old General Santos City fighter keeps his WBA world-ranking as well as the possibility for a rematch with South African IBO world champ Moruthi Mthalane or a clash against any of the WBF or WBA world titlist. "We want a rematch against Mthalane. He knows that Oliva beat him last March in South Africa. Let's fight again," commented Jim Claude Manangquil, Oliva's manager. MORE RESULTS In a 4-rounder bantamweight war, former amateur standout Mark Angelo Plana won his second pro fight via unanimous decision over unyielding late sub Clavilaz Omayao. Plana is a former Philippines Amateur National Team Member who represented the country in last year's AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships in Ukraine. Also, the 22-year-old Kenny Demecillo (8-2-1, 5 KO's) of Iligan, Lanao del Norte destroyed Butuan veteran Nikong "The Destroyer" Calamba during the action of round 2. The rumble was in the 118-lbs class. Moreover, unbeaten hard-swinging Jr. flyweight knockout artist Christian Araneta (6-0, 5 KO's) scored the fifth stoppage of his boxing career with a devastating performance over Bonjun Loperez (8-2, 4 KO's). In another knockout result, flyweight Michael "Blade" Enriquez of Cagayan de Oro was victorious with a round 4 knockout win over lefty Rez Padrogane. With the win, Enriquez, who tasted defeat last June, successfully gets back to the winning column. In the second clash of the evening, flyweight Michael Javier (2-0, 1 KO) won his second pro-fight with a 4-rounder split decision victory over really tough debutant Jose Aballe. In a short lived blow-by-blow action combat tough 108-pounder Orlie Silvestre, 20, of Sultan Kudarat and debutant Ryan Bahala (who was three pounds lighter than Silvestre), battled to a round 2 technical draw. The boxing show on Sunday (Oct 5) was part of the celebrations of the centennial founding anniversary of the boxing-loving Municipality of Glan in Sarangani. The "Danger Zone" card was a production of very active promoter was Jim Claude Manangquil of JM Promotions in cooperation with Buboy Fernandez Promotions, Sanman Promotions, Errol Elicanal and Lonsdale.
