NBA -- Ray Allen remains undecided as season nears

CHICAGO -- Two-time NBA champion Ray Allen is still a free agent and with training camp for the upcoming 2014-15 season opening in a few weeks, his decision remains highly anticipated around the league.
A free agent after a two-year run with the Miami Heat, Allen told CBS Sports on September 2 that he was in "no rush" to decide, adding that "I'm content with everything that I've done. I just want to take this summer and see how it goes."
But as another full season beckons, time is no longer a luxury and a decision awaits.
The 39-year old Allen, a veteran of 18 seasons, holds the NBA's all-time record for 3-point field goals made with 2,973. A 10-time All-Star, the 6-foot-5 shooting guard has drilled a total of 24,505 points while shooting 45.2 percent from the field during his decorated career.
Although he normed a meager 9.6 points in 73 regular season games last season, Allen remains a dangerous shooting threat. Among the teams bidding for his services include the Cleveland Cavaliers, Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Clippers, San Antonio Spurs, and most recently, the Chicago Bulls.
With his close ties to former Heat juggernaut LeBron James, the Cavs are widely acknowledged as having a leg up on the competition but the other suitors, especially the reigning champions Spurs, are an enticing alternative.
Because of salary cap restrictions, Allen will probably earn no more than the veteran's minimum of about $5 million a year. But money is no longer his motivation. According to basketballreferemce.com, Allen has collected $184.3 million in NBA salaries. (EP)
