"Iron" Will gets a Brazilian

PhilBoxing.com

Toowoomba's own Australian Featherweight champion "Iron" Will Young is set to have his first international bout as a professional when he takes on Brazilian Reginaldo Carvalho on the "Smithy brings the big fights 8" card on October 31 at Rumours International in Toowoomba.

Young is coming off an impressive unanimous decision win over Emanuel Micallef for the Australian Featherweight title in July and now looks to take this form to the international scene when he takes on the much more experienced Carvalho.

"I'm going in to this fight with a good base behind me after my last fight in Toowoomba," said Young.

"With that fitness and strength it has given me a lot of confidence in myself. I have respect for Reginaldo but I want this to be a shut out."

Promoter Brendon Smith is excited to add another international match up to the card which is shaping up to be an Australia vs Brazil affair.

"This is a great fight for Will but it is a big step up in experience," said Smith.

"I am very excited to add another international fight to this card. That is now three international fights with Will Young, Kris George and Jack Asis all taking on Brazilian opponents."

"If things go to plan, there will be a further two international fights and the night will turn into Australia vs Brazil for the inaugural Geiger cup."

This fight will take place on the "Smithy Brings the big fights 8" card. Also on the card will be undefeated local "The fighting fisherman" Kris George when he takes on Brazilian Fernando Ferrera Da Silva for the WBA Oceania Junior Welterweight title, along with Filipino star and adopted local Jack "The Assassin" Asis vs hard hitting Brazilian Isaias Santos Sampaio for the WBA Oceania super featherweight title.

Undefeated WBC world youth silver featherweight champion "The Great White" Brayd Smith will also return to the ring along with Sam "The Philosopher" Williams, hard hitting heavyweight "The Hermanator" Herman Ene-Purcell and English born who now calls Toowoomba home Darren "The Cumbrian Cyclone" Askew. Amateur star Steven Spark and team mate Joel Stower will make their pro debuts on the night, plus more local talent.

"Smithy Brings the Big Fights 8" will take place at Rumours International on Halloween on October 31 and spectators are encouraged to dress up with prizes on the night for the best dressed. If any one is chasing costumes please go and see our local girls at the Toowoomba Fancy dress shop who dressed our boxers for the press conference. They are located in Ruthven Street ph 46 394 800.

Tickets for the event are on sale now at Smithy's gym in Toowoomba ph 46 378 298. Prices will be the same as the previous event at $95 for Ringside A, $75 for Ringside B and $55 for General seating.
